Viking Jewellery 2

viking jewellery2.jpg

This is the second amazing piece of Viking Jewellery from the Melbourne Museum. While some of the beads are reproductions, you can still see the long tube beads of both clear quartz and carnelian. Clear quartz was another stone commonly used by the Viking people, generally in the form of lenses, however they did also make glass beads. Carnelian is a stone commonly connected to the Egyptian goddess Isis, and there is an interesting amount of similarity between Isis and the Viking goddess Freyja.
