Sigil Making
As part of our new line of spell jars, we have incorporated some sigil work! I will attempt to break down the sigil making process in my own messy way so you too can create your own.
Start with a statement of your goal. Try to make it as succinct as possible and keep it positive! I feel, I am, I will are all great statements to use.
Now put a dash through every vowel and every repeated letter.
Write down which letters remain, ideally around 5-10 depending on the length of your statement and the intricacy of your finished sigil.
Start experimenting! I love to work on circles, especially as they are easy to make very symmetrical. Because aesthetics are a part of the process, symmetry tends to be rather desirable. The addition of the C and D means you can make a nifty circle out of these components, or just have one as part of the final piece.
Just keep experimenting! You don’t have to make it symmetrical if you don’t want to, its perfectly fine to embrace a quirky character. It really is more about what you are drawn to.
You can also add elements that were not in the original letter to further obfuscate the original meaning or enhance the aesthetics. I often tend towards using dots and various dashes etc.
One of the latest parts of sigil making is to actually use a digital method to create your sigil. This may include letters, numbers, special characters and even emojis. This is a totally valid method, and very fun to try.
Part of the ideal of sigils is to utilise it in your daily life. Perhaps create a painting, or sew it onto a cushion, or even screenprint it onto clothes. The possibilities truly are endless!
