Fakebusters: Kambaba Jasper
We saw some real kambaba jasper recently when we were doing a Fakebusters of malachite, however it turns out that kambaba jasper is also a great topic all of its own!
This is one of the most common types of faked kambaba jasper, deep green background with almost lime green "inclusions" and some kind of large amorphous spots. It may also be called bird's eye jasper when sold on certain online auction sites.
Here again is the same sort of fakery from a different angle. This time there are at least two spots and they got a little creative with the middle of them!
Lastly we have some set fakery. Remember, just because someone set it into silver, does not mean that it is not fake! I see some of the worst stuff set into jewellery pieces and proudly sold as the real thing. This fake has less of the bright blotching, however the green is rather oddly patterned for a stone that is supposed to be a stromatolite! Some of the blebbing on this one look a little to perfect and round too, as if the colours were splattered on there, which is probably exactly what happened!
